Hello and Welcome 2011!!! This year is going to be a wonderful year, I can feel it in my bones ^_-
Now, let’s start our first post of the year with something Scott and I are so thrilled to be a part of. We were invited by a dear friend to speak to the AVID classes (Advancement Via Individual Determination – http://www.avid.org/) at her school. It’s a program/system for students (fourth- through twelfth-grade) who have the desire to go to college. Whoever that came up with this program = GENIUS! Since some of the kids have no idea what they want to do in life, now they have opportunities to listen and ask questions from real life professionals and figure out what they want to do and how to get there.
Here are a few images that Connie captured using her iPhone while we are chatting with the students.
Scott and I had a great time showing our work and telling them about our passion. They asked us so many intriguing questions about our lives. We were told that typically, they will be the first in their families to attend college, and many are from low-income or minority families. We feel privileged to tell them anything and everything is possible if they set their minds to it. Scott and I couldn’t stop talking about our experiences, we feel so blessed with our career we are sharing, with the path we chose and we are hoping we made an impact on some of these kids to look past the mundane and typical career path…. to follow their passions.
The funny thing is, a few weeks later Connie stopped by and dropped off this thank you note from her class. That was just too neat!!! They made our day. Thanks kids!
If anyone of you were to asked to speak to these kids, DO IT!!! You will get more than you give, I promise!
Anyway, we hope everyone is having a good year so far! ^_^
